Chapa…  A project that has been in the making for several years.  A sound that has been in the making for even longer.  The project was formed by Russ Chapa, aka Lou Lewis, and Deacon, in late 2003, and existed mainly a 2 piece throughout the first 3 years, with the occasional player joining in.  During this time, the group released their first album, A Buyer's RideIn early 2006, the boys grew by 2, with Emil Abramyan, aka Dagger, and Adam Zygmunt.  Shortly thereafter, Mr. Party Paul Pate joined the fray with much love and respect.  The band has recently completed work on a 4-song EP, Believing, and have begun work on the new album, A Look To The West.

Russ Chapa:   Vocals, guitar, stories
Deacon:   Drums, pots and pans, glasses, vibes, talking drum, nuts, bells, triangle, mood swings
Zygmunt:   Oboe, English horn, flute, suling, gambuh, alto sax, penny whistle, djembe, melodica, bass
Dagger:   Cello, keys, rainstick
Party Paul:   Bass clarinet, baritone sax, flute

"You never really know what to expect... you'll hear pure folk, country and elegant rock among others. I found myself very involved and interested to see how the disc would end."

"It is nearly impossible to describe the music with precision, mixing percussion, cello, organ and guitar to carefully crafted stories.  Chapa's sound is reminiscent of the experimental Vinyl's of the 70's, such as Silver Mt. Zion, with his aerial quotations that are falsely minimalist."

The sound that the Boys have created has a little something for everyone.  Blending classical instruments with modern arrangements, Chapa engages listeners of all kinds to this beautiful sound scape.  There are stories of hope, despair, love, and chance, side by side with ethereal melodies, warming cello, floating flutes, singing oboes, bouncing bass clarinet, and vibrant vibes.

"It's a bluesy rock album with twang and a kick to the pants. That's what Chapa is. From country twang to tripped-out psychedelia, Chapa shows off an impressive array of vocal styles, at times sounding like a mix of his old band Ojo and Primus."
