Chapa: A Texas Boy from the foothills of the Brazos... By the way, my name is Lou Lewis... I'm an Old Friend, Dear Friend of Chapa... He asked me to write this Bio for him... "You asked for it Brother."

Well,
Chapa grew up in a small house with his 2 Brothers, Mother, and Father... Working Class, through and through... He tended to speak to himself a lot, which made for interesting conversations with his Advisors... But he never hurt anyone, that I can recall... Chapa was a very talented athlete growing up, and would often day dream of playing in the Big Leagues for his favorite team, The Texas Rangers... I never understood this, since the Rangers always sucked... But it says a lot about the boy... You know, to be so loyal... Like a puppy just weaned off the Tit...

So anyway, oh yea, the Daydreaming Kid who talked to himself a lot... Well his talents took him to College, where he played 1 full season for the Tarleton State University something’s? Oh, the Fighting Texans? I think that's what they were called... This didn't last too long because he tore up his arm the last 4 games of the season on a long throw from left field... Tragic I suppose, but that's a whole other story...

I do apologize... I get side tracked from time to time... Let me get back to the story at hand... Chapa's love for music stems from his Father... His mother once told the young boy about how his Father sang a Love song to her while they were courting... She explained that she knew he was the ONE after that night... This story stayed with the boy through the years, and it was ultimately the clincher in his decision to chase this Rabid, Torturous Dream... To Be a Performer... An Entertainer... A Rock Star... A Freak... You get the point...

Growing up the Baby of 3 boys, he was always the recipient of the "hand-me-downs." I'm sure some of you can relate... But with this, also came the musical influences... His oldest brother would turn the Young Chapa on to the likes of the Beatles, Led Zepplin, The Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Billy Joel, Elton John, The Doors, Kiss, Tom Waits, The Eagles, Heart, Charlie Daniels, Pink Floyd, Janis Joplin, Grand Funk Railroad, ELO, Dylan, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, The Grease Soundtrack (That's Right, Oh did he love Sandy. Oh Sandy, Babe?), Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, Bob Marley, The Mamma's and Papa’s, The Who, etc...

All of these influences came at an early age, but then the 80's rolled in, and of course the rebellious Chapa discovered for himself the new sound that was coming in... His First album he ever bought was Pyromania, by Def Leppard... The list must keep coming: Motley Crew, Poison, Bon Jovi, Judiest Priest, Tesla, Van Halen, Metallica, The Police, The Stray Cats, Michael Jackson, The Talking Heads, Devo, Prince and the Revolution, Cinderella, Krokus, White Lion, Firehouse (Damn, I never got that one), etc... The list is too long... But I'll keep trying... How about the 90's? Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, The Chili Pepper's, Jane’s Addiction, The Pumpkins, Rage, Blind Mellon, Radio Head, Mad Season, Tool, Beck, Pearl Jam, etc...

Well Chapa was a late bloomer in this here music thing... He's really only played in a few bands... A matter of fact, I'll just speak of his last one... OJO ... Chapa was one of the founding members of this creative five piece... Spawned in Waco Texas... These guys rocked the Texas music Scene from Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, Waco, and Houston...

Well, Houston may not count, since they only played there a few times... And one night in particular was at this place that had the worlds Worse Pizza... Hard to believe, but it's true... That night, however, turned out to be a
“one of a kind.” Not many people can say they've played a show with a "Record Breaker" on stage with them... And what I mean, is there was this homeless guy (The sheltered challenged?) literally broke LP's on the stage... For a low, low price of $5, he would break these records for you... What a great ploy... He had hundreds of them... Where he got them, who knows? So the Boys gave him a twenty and requested that he break as many as he wanted... But... And I must put a huge BUT in… He had to dance and sing along while he was breaking the Records... Hey for $20, you gonna have to do more than just break some records… What a site to see... That was one for the Grandkids...

Anyway, OJO were together for about 4 years... Their hard work soon came into focus shortly after they were posted as "Album of the Month" onwww.theprp.com... Things began to look up for the Boys... Calls and emails began to swarm in... I think their old site is still up, if you are interested... www.ojo.iwarp.com... I don't think that it's been updated in some time... But Curiosity killed the Cat, right? But as fate would have it, OJO seemed to just slip away out of view... All 5 members ended up going their own way... Tony Aguilar, the singer, ended up forming Spore333, Dave, one of the guitarist, formed Principle, Brian Wright, the other guitarist, formed Brian Wright and the Waco Tragedies (Based in LA, cali), Brandon Marquin, aka The Deacon, the Drummer, well he's playing with all of them and more (Tragedies, Joe Purdy, Soda and his million piece band, Chapa, Buzz Fly, Spore333, Catherine Feeny, etc.), and of course there's Chapa, who was the bassist in OJO... And now you are learning more of his story...

Chapa ended up moving as far west as this continent would allow… To the land of the Juicy Pineapples… With the help of Deacon, and Semyon, A Northern California Gypsy on Cello, Frankie Standalone, and Albert R. Chemist, Chapa’s released his first solo album, A Buyer's Ride... “It’s about freakin time.” This album was a collection of songs, old and new, from this Silly Boy's life... Titles like, "From Your Cloud,"was dedicated to his Father, Joe V. Chapa, who's since been gone for several years... "Only Me," a country filled ditty about a young boys life without a real family... "Well You Wish Thee," the only true love song on the album, is dedicated to the love that flashed to an end... “Edna’s Thrill,”a ghost story about 3 young boys experience messing with a Ouija board… This is just a few of the songs that are on this full length Album... Chapa is currently working on his follow album, A Look To the West, due out when the Rain begins Slow... So keep your hands to the sky... I think that this about as good as I'm going to get... This boys story is too damn long... "Here you go Chapa... I'm Lou Lewis."
